The Pet Pass ID NFC and QR pet ID tag combines two technologies: NFC and QR code. On iPhone, you should touch the tag to the top part of the device (near the top of the screen), because that is where the NFC antenna is located. On most Android phones, the NFC reader is usually in the upper third of the back side of the device, so you should touch the tag to that area. If NFC is enabled on the phone, it will automatically open your pet’s online profile in the browser. If the phone does not have NFC or it is disabled, the finder can scan the QR code on the tag using the camera or a QR code app, which opens the same digital profile. In both cases, the user is taken to the same profile, so it works with almost any modern smartphone.

No. The Pet Pass ID Smart Pet Tag is a completely app-free solution. As the owner, you manage your pet’s profile in a regular web browser, and the finder also opens the pet’s profile in their browser. There is no need to download any extra app – neither on Android nor on iOS. Because everything works in the browser, you are not locked to a single device. Unlike some app-based solutions that can only be edited from the phone where the app is installed, you can manage your Pet Pass ID profile from any device with a browser: laptop, tablet, desktop computer or smartphone.

Any smartphone with internet access that can read QR codes (almost all modern phone cameras can) or has NFC (most newer Android phones and iPhones). If the phone does not have NFC, the finder can simply use the QR code. If the phone does have NFC, the easiest is to just touch the tag to the correct spot (top on iPhone, upper back area on most Android phones).

When someone touches the tag to the correct spot on their phone (NFC) or scans the QR code, the phone’s browser opens a digital pet profile. The finder then sees the data you chose to show: pet name, your phone number (and other contact options, if you added them), important health information such as allergies or medications, and optionally social media links (Instagram, TikTok, etc.). From there, they can call or message you with a single tap.

First, you purchase the tag from our webshop or a partner. When the tag arrives, the first step is to read it with your own phone (via NFC or QR). Your browser will open a page where you can create a new account or log in to your existing Pet Pass ID account. Then you enter your own details and your pet’s data, save the profile, and attach the tag to the collar. From that moment on, the Pet Pass ID Smart Pet Tag is active, and anyone who scans it will see the information you have set.

At minimum, we recommend adding your name, phone number, and address (or at least the area / town where you can be reached). On top of that, it is useful to add your vet’s name and phone number, vaccination info, allergies, medications, chronic conditions, any special dietary needs, and your pet’s social media profiles (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube) if you have them. The more useful information you add, the easier it is for the finder to take responsible care of your pet until you arrive.

Yes. The Pet Pass ID Smart Pet Tag profile can be edited at any time – if your phone number changes, you move, you change vets, or your pet’s health information needs updating. Just log in to your account, update the data, save it, and the new information will appear instantly the next time someone reads the tag.

You can manage multiple pet profiles under a single user account. You can order a separate tag for each pet, or even multiple tags for the same pet (for different collars, harnesses, travel crates, etc.). Within one profile, you can handle as many tags as you like – there is no extra fee or limit on the number of tags.

The Pet Pass ID NFC and QR pet ID system is available in multiple languages. At the moment, you can use it in English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Polish, Romanian, and Hungarian. In the digital profile view, the finder can choose which language they prefer to read the information in. Pet Pass ID has users worldwide, so multilingual support is an important part of the system.

It is important to understand that the Pet Pass ID Smart Pet Tag itself does not store your data. The tag is just a physical key that opens your online digital profile via NFC and QR. Your data are stored on secure online servers with GDPR-style data handling. If you lose the tag or decide to stop using it, you can log in to the system at any time and edit or delete your profile. Once you delete the data, they are no longer accessible when the tag is scanned. The tag does not need to be physically with you when you edit your profile – all changes are synchronized online from any device (phone, laptop, desktop, tablet).

Only what you choose to make public. You decide whether your phone number is visible, if your address is shown (or just an area / meeting point), whether vet and medical information are visible, and if your social media links are displayed. Yes. In the Pet Pass ID Smart Pet Tag interface, you can choose whether your information is always visible or only when you mark your pet as lost. This means you can show minimal data under normal circumstances and only reveal more detailed information when you really need it – for example, if your pet goes missing.

No. The Pet Pass ID Smart Pet Tag is not a GPS tracker and does not continuously record location data. Its purpose is to make it easy for a finder to contact you if they come across your pet. If you want real-time GPS tracking, you can use a dedicated GPS device in addition – Pet Pass ID complements such solutions but does not replace them.

There are currently two main types. First, the classic ring-style Pet Pass ID Smart Pet Tag: a small, lightweight tag attached to the collar with a metal ring. The front shows a design and a QR code, the NFC chip is embedded inside, and an epoxy resin coating protects the printed and digital elements so they cannot rub off easily. Second, the silicone, slide-on Pet Pass ID – AirTag holder version: a flexible silicone sleeve that slides onto a collar or harness, contains the Pet Pass ID NFC and QR code, has an inner slot for an Apple AirTag or certain Android tags, and is made from fluorescent material that glows green in the dark.

The AirTag holder version is a silicone Pet Pass ID Smart Pet Tag that is a full NFC and QR pet ID by itself, but also includes a dedicated slot for an Apple AirTag or similar Bluetooth tracker. You do not have to use an AirTag – the Pet Pass ID Smart Pet Tag works perfectly on its own as a digital pet ID. The AirTag slot is an optional extra for those who want to combine Pet Pass ID with a Bluetooth or GPS-style tracker.

In many cases, yes. The silicone slot is designed to fit devices similar in size and shape to an Apple AirTag, so many AirTag-sized Bluetooth trackers (including some Android-compatible tags) will fit. Exact compatibility depends on the dimensions of the specific tag, but AirTag-style trackers generally fit well.

The fluorescent version glows green in the dark, making your pet more visible on evening walks and helping you spot them more easily. The glow-in-the-dark material charges best under UV light. Before an evening walk, it is recommended to shine a UV flashlight on the tag for a few seconds. If you do not have UV light, a traditional bulb (old-style incandescent or similar) also helps charge it. Many modern energy-saving LEDs are not ideal for charging phosphorescent material, so UV or traditional bulbs work better.

The Pet Pass ID Smart Pet Tag is designed to withstand daily use. It is water-resistant and suitable for walks in rain, snow, puddles, and playtime. The epoxy resin coating on the classic tag protects the printed surface and the digital code. Normal “wear and tear” such as walking, playing, sleeping, and getting wet is no problem. If the tag is worn together with another metal tag in direct contact, continuous banging and scratching can significantly damage the surface over time. For this reason, we do not recommend wearing it directly against a metal tag – if you still do so, it is at your own risk. Our warranty does not cover damage caused by other metal tags hitting or scratching the Pet Pass ID, nor damage caused by another animal chewing the tag.

Yes, Pet Pass ID can also be used for cats. The classic ring-style tag is recommended for cats that are already used to wearing a hanging tag. The silicone slide-on version is especially cat-friendly because it sits flush on the collar, does not dangle, and is less likely to get snagged on branches or fences. For cats, always use a safety breakaway collar that can open in an emergency.

If you are using NFC, first make sure NFC is enabled in your phone’s settings. Then touch the tag to different parts of your phone – NFC antenna positions vary from device to device (top of the iPhone, upper back area on many Android phones). If you use a thick case, try removing it temporarily. If it still does not work, switch to the QR code: open the camera app, aim it at the QR code on the tag, and if needed use a dedicated QR scanner app.

If the tag is lost or damaged so much that it cannot be read, you should order a new tag. Your account and your pet’s profile remain in the system. You can copy your data to a new profile or link them to a new Pet Pass ID tag – you do not have to start from zero.

Yes. This is useful if you use several collars (for example, an everyday collar, a hiking collar, and a harness), or if you want an additional tag on a crate or travel carrier. One pet profile can be linked to multiple tags, and you can manage them clearly inside the system. There is no extra fee and no limit on the number of tags per pet.

You can clean the tag with a damp cloth and a little mild soapy water. Avoid aggressive chemicals, strong solvents, and abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the outer coating. A soft cloth is usually more than enough to keep your Pet Pass ID Smart Pet Tag clean.
